You are invited to
the Association for Women Journalists' 2006 scholarship
and awards banquet on Friday, June 16 at Hackberry Creek
Country Club, 1901 W. Royal Lane, Irving. The silent auction and
cash bar start at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:30 p.m.
The speaker is Camelia Entekhabi-Fard, a journalist who was jailed
for three months in Iran for her provocative reporting for reformist
newspapers. Now based in New York, she has reported for various
news organizations since then and has recently written a book about
her experiences in jail.
AWJ will present its Courage Award to Lyn Berman, executive director
of Attitudes& Attire, a Dallas-based nonprofit organization
that provides business clothing and training workshops for women
with little personal or financial support. Last year the organization
helped 1,600 people, including 260 displaced Hurricane Katrina victims.
AWJ also will recognize this year's five college scholarship winners
and present awards in the Vivian Castleberry Awards Competition.
Tickets are $40 each or $300 per table of eight.
